Return of the Salmon Celebration in Sultan!

Everyone is invited to Sultan’s 6th Annual Return of the Salmon Celebration on Saturday, September 23, from 10:30 AM to 4 PM at Osprey Park, 801 First Street, Sultan, WA 98294.

This free family event is in a covered venue and the event will go on rain or shine.

Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick has proclaimed September 23 as “A Day of Remembrance for Chief T’seul-Ted, and a Day Celebrating the Return of the Salmon.” After two years at sea, the Pink Salmon that left their birth river in Sultan as small fingerlings are back as adults to spawn in great numbers, continuing the circle of life.

4th Annual 5K Salmon Run through Osprey Park! This timed Runners’ Race begins at 10 AM sharp and is followed by a 1-mile Fast Walk.

Registration fee for the walk is $15. The run entry fee is $20.00. Register online at the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce website. Or, the day of the race, registration is open from 9:00 to 9:45 AM. Sign up online,

Open to all community runners and walkers, the morning’s Salmon Run will wind through the scenic river paths in Osprey Park. Preparations are being headed up by Sultan High School’s Cross Country Coach, Rick Holloway and his team. Prizes will be awarded.

Beginning with a Native welcoming at 10:30 AM, the event features an honoring of Sultan’s namesake Chief T’seul-ted, riverside tours and horse-drawn covered wagon rides to the Sultan High School Salmon Hatchery for tours and a fish release. Highlights include Swil Kanim, Lummi, a well-known virtuoso violinist and storyteller; JP Falcon Grady, Blackfeet, a guitarist, singer and songwriter; Peter Ali, Native flutist; and a demonstration by master cedar weaver Lance Taylor, Tulalip.

There will be vendors and educational displays, children’s activities, watershed education, a Master Gardener clinic, and much more! Wild-caught, grilled Pacific salmon, frybread and lemonade will be available.

Partnering with the City of Sultan, Tulalip Tribes, Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD), a committee of community volunteers is proud to announce this 6th annual family event.
